Western Jurisdiction
United Women in Faith
Quadrennial Event
May 9-11, 2024
Hotel Captain Cook
Anchorage, Alaska
I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. John 13: 34
Across the United States, United Women in Faith Jurisdiction teams creatively aspired to name a theme and select a bible verse for our events. After much thought, prayer and discussion, the above John 13:34 verse was identified as being just right for this time, this season, this event of "Getting Together" in May 2024.
Jesus is going somewhere we cannot go, and plans for us to recognize our discipleship by our love for one another. We believe these words emphasize how our United Women in Faith sisterhood, our fellowship, our advocacy and repair work, and our relational love enables us to explore the commandment to love one another. When is this easy? When is it hard? As we spend our special days together, gathering for the main purpose of electing our Board of Directors representatives from the Western Jurisdiction, we will consider this biblical directive and how we apply it to our lives.
There are about 60 “one another” statements in the New Testament. That’s 60 appeals in scripture to actually “do” something towards another person. These are biblical prescripts regarding how we are to treat one another as the community of faith, commands such as “love one another”, “honor one another”, “serve one another”, “forgive one another”, “comfort one another”, “bear with one another” and “encourage one another”.
If we take care of one another and go the extra mile to keep our sisters motivated and on track, we all gain. If we reach out with compassion whenever someone is struggling, we’re all lifted up. Life must be faced every morning and God has big plans for us - it takes enthusiasm and resolve. How are we doing? Are we honoring one another? Comforting? Bearing one another’s burdens? As a community of women, is our faith bringing the vitality needed to motivate one another into action? Is our hope realized and women, children and youth are being touched by our deeds? Is love for one another enough?
Our Western Jurisdiction Event will be full of opportunities to mentor and be mentored, to discuss the rights and values of people of all races, to sing, pray, meditate and create, fellowship over meals, and meet new friends and greet old friends. How pleasing it is to belong to a creative, supportive organization of women that envisions its very purpose to be about serving “one another”!
Heavenly Father, we pray for the humility to recognize our need for other brothers and sisters in Christ. Show us ways to be a blessing to one another. Amen.
